Sondra was born and raised in Boaz, a small town in northern Alabama, where she attended school and college. She met Walter and they were married in 1964. Shortly afterward, they moved to Huntsville where she continued her education at the University of Alabama. They have three sons, and five grandchildren. They are independent truckers leased to a company in Missouri where they currently reside. They attend First Baptist Church of Louisburg where Sondra is pianist. Although she has been writing short stories and poetry primarily for young readers for a number of years, According to Punkin is her first book.
